The murder of Florida State law professor Dan Markel has now produced conviction after conviction — and the family's matriarch is the latest to fall. In 2025, Donna Adelson was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation for her role in the 2014 murder-for-hire plot, and sentenced to life in prison. Jurors heard from her own children: Wendi described a mother who "micromanaged" her life; her estranged son Robert said Donna "ran the show."

The details from that trial were staggering — testimony about 44 checks from the family dental practice, about Donna managing her son Charlie's flights, hotels, and jail calls (86 calls in a single week after his conviction), and about desperate schemes proposed during Wendi's custody fight. Donna's defense argued she acted at Charlie's direction.

Her direct appeal is now live: in September 2026, Florida's First District Court of Appeal accepted her amended brief and ordered the state to respond. But the question this page can never put down isn't Donna's appeal. It's the family member who has testified in trial after trial — and has never been charged. Jurors, you know the name. Deliberate below. πŸ‘‡
